Elizabeth Hampton is consumed by grief when her mother dies unexpectedly. Leslie Hampton cared for Elizabeth’s troubled brother Ronnie’s special needs, assuming Elizabeth would take him in when the time came. But Leslie’s sudden death propels Elizabeth into a world of danger and double lives that undoes everything she thought she knew....

When police discover that Leslie was strangled, they immediately suspect that one of Ronnie’s outbursts took a tragic turn. Elizabeth can’t believe that her brother is capable of murder, but who else could have had a motive to kill their quiet, retired mother?

More questions arise when a stranger is named in Leslie’s will: a woman also named Elizabeth. As the family’s secrets unravel, a man from Leslie’s past who claims to have all the answers shows up, but those answers might put Elizabeth and those she loves the most in mortal danger. (via Goodreads)

I received an e-copy of this from NAL Trade through Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

I always love reading mystery thriller novels. In a way, it makes me feel like a detective. Heh. So I was really excited to be lost in this one. I'm so glad it didn't disappoint!

From the very first page, I got hooked to the story. Why wouldn't I? Elizabeth's Mom was killed and her brother was the prime suspect. So juicy right? But all along, I was with Elizabeth. I never believed that Ronnie killed their Mom. When the real killer was introduced, I knew he was the one. Though of course, I still didn't know the motives and all from the first few pages. I just knew he did it because of the way he talked with Elizabeth. It was obvious for me since he seemed too uncomfortable at times. He showed signs of being guilty. But well, Elizabeth was so oblivious to it.

The mystery behind that killer's motives was actually a blast. There were a lot of hints given away as the story went on. You'd be able to guess their connection in no time. But you'd also have doubts since it was actually tricky and you know, people were lying. Primarily, Elizabeth's Mom had lots of secrets. Things you can't even imagine to begin with if you're Elizabeth. Since I was reading from Elizabeth's POV, she actually did great with all the drama surrounding her. Yes, she had weak moments but that's normal especially with what she was going through. But really, she was a strong person altogether. I admire how she was able to stand through with Ronnie all throughout. She never did give up on him.

As I've said, there are lots of secrets in here. But it weren't given away all at once. It was written in such a way that you'll really enjoy guessing and connecting them. Bell did a great job in writing the story! I can say that a lot of thought has been given before it was written. It's a mystery masterpiece in a way.

Since I was able to guess who the killer was from the start, it all made sense in the end. It was such a sad story. Tragic actually.

Never Come Back is such a great mystery/thriller read. It'll keep you guessing as to who the killer really was. It'll surprise you with all the secrets of Elizabeth's Mom. Be ready to know who the real killer was!
